I have been playing with an idea today. I really liked this painting by Andres Zorn and decided to borrow a figure from him and change it a little and add a few of my own from sessions with a model. Not quite finished but enjoying the process and playing with the images.

Instead of making pies
This morning I noticed the bowl of lemons glowing in a red bowl at my window sill and thought, " I need to paint those." And then I thought, " Hmm I wonder if there are still any plums and blackberries growing in the community garden because another pie sure sounds good to me." There were a lot of fallen, over ripe plums on the ground and plenty in the tree, and tons of blackberries and even a few pears so I gathered them up, picked some poke on the trail and brought everything home and dumped them out on the counter. Again, I thought, " they look so pretty there with the muted light coming in through the east window." So of course, before I could turn them into a pie, they had to be painted.

Equality Center Fundraiser on Thursday night
Planning a fun evening tomorrow..... Equality Center fundraiser has 3 of my pieces.... a couple of nudes and a portrait. Anyone hoping to own some lovely art AND support a good cause, this is your moment. Speaking of good causes... another fundraiser at AHHA to benefit the Art and Healing program at Hillcrest Hospital. We are doing a Pinot's Pallet kind of thing with hospital staff. We did it a few months ago and folks had so much fun we decided to do it again. Of course anyone who wished to donate to that great cause can always do so through the Arts and Humanities Council. Earmark your gift for the Art and Healing program and the Doctors of Hillcrest will match it twice!

Stairs to Nowhere
It is the 50th anniversary of the bloodiest race riot in the US history. It happened a block away from this site. This is a section of the neighborhood where I live. At present, this is a huge field with many " stairs to nowhere" and a few remnants of old gardens. I took my adult class here in the spring so that they could have the plein aire experience. Nature and time works to heal old wounds. Tulsa has made an effort to mark the massacre and make sure it is now in our Oklahoma history books and has created a remembrance park which teaches about this and other human failings... The Trail of Tears, Slavery in the USA and this riot.

Oil Painting Lessons in Tulsa
If you live in or around Tulsa, OK and have always wanted to learn how to paint, please contact me and join our class. I teach beginners through those who sell their work as established painters. I teach demonstration style but my students always have the option of working independently with help from me as needed. We usually decide as a group, what our subject will be. Right now everyone wanted to learn how to paint a portrait like the masters. We are having a lot of fun with this one and I must say, the class is doing a great job
Here are some pics of past, class projects: some of these are mine and a few are student pieces. As you can see, we are all over the place with style, subject matter but always having fun and learning.

Ballet Dancers by Margaret Aycock
I love this little painting. I was invited, along with other local artists, To attend rehearsals of the Tulsa Ballet before the season opened. I took numerous photos and just sat and observed the lovely dancers. In this painting I focused on the line of this dancer's back which struck me as just beautiful.

Billowing Clouds
Right around the block from my home is a wonderful museum, Gilcrease Museum. I love to go on walks there with my faithful pooch, Scout. On this day we took some great photos as the weatherman predicted some pretty nasty weather was on the way with possible tornadoes. It was still a couple hours out from Tulsa so I knew I had time to take some great shots, get in a little exercise and then come home to batten down the hatches. Because we live in prairie land with only a few gentle rises, we get to view the very best in dramatic skies around these parts. They are often a subject for my work. This one is a 16x20 on stretched canvas.

Pansies
This is an 11x14 oil on stretched canvas, just completed. I have been wanting to paint these flowers for a while and looked for them at local home depot and lowes w no luck... Then went to church at Mother's Day and hung around for a while and when we left the guy at the door said, well you should just take all these flowers as they will only get thrown away if you don't. Did someone say " Free Stuff?" and they were the exact flowers I had been searching for?

Margaret Hudson fundraiser.
I was happy to donate my images to be used in the Margaret Hudson fundraiser. Margaret Hudson program helps keep young moms in school while they are pregnant and helps them after they give birth. It is a long time, very successful program in Tulsa, where I live.

Artist Studio Tour 2016
What a wonderful weekend. We had well over 200 visitors to our studio/gallery. It was so wonderful to get to talk with past purchasers and past and future students, meet young artists, art lovers and friends. Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition did an excellent job finding volunteers to help w ticket sales and marketing and just making sure everything was a success. Thanks so much to all who made the weekend possible. It is always a time for people to learn and get inspired.... at least it always has been for me as one who, in the past, got to visit multiple studios and learn many different ways in which artists work and find their inspiration. It is a real gift to the creative community. Thanks, OVAC!

Lilacs and Cherry Blossoms
This is the first year I have ever painted my very favorite smelling flowers. They remind me of my childhood in upstate NY where lilac bushes were more like lilac trees, or maybe it was because I was so small that they seemed that big. I had a little table and kid size chairs under our lilac tree where I had tea parties, smelling the sweet scent of lilacs the whole time. This painting is a little 8x10 on stretched canvas. It is in my ebay gallery auction this week. CLICK HERE to visit it in my Gallery where you will have the option to bid or see other paintings in my gallery.

How to paint a floral with Lilacs and Cherry Blossoms
These flowers fade so quickly that one must paint quickly.... which is fine by me as I love the feel of the impressionist quality of a well thought out, quick plein aire sketch. This painting features lilacs and cherry blossoms from my garden. I am going to picture the step by step process below.

Picking Sand Plums in Rural Oklahoma
This painting began after a wildcrafting trip in rural Oklahoma where Jackie Dill lead a group of us to her favorite haunts and shared Native American recipes, Here we are foraging for wild plums. I loved how the sun fell across a young woman in our group as she reached for more plums. I said, " Wait! Hold that pose! Snapped a few photos and used them later in the studio to create this painting. This painting started out as a stretched canvas that later got ripped when my husband was cleaning up. On my blog I go through the process of repairing it and putting it on a board. To bid on the painting, click here

Back Yard
I got inspired the other day. It was such a warm and wonderful afternoon and all my work was complete. I had a couple hours left of daylight and my neighbor's fully leafed out willow tree looked so pretty against the rest of the barren trees and the cloudy day. I ran in and grabbed my brushes and set about the painting.
