For whatever reason I have decided to start making Pineneedles baskets. They keep my hands busy and my mind at rest and they’re just plain fun. I’m sure I’ll never get my time back out of these as they take about a day each to make.
Welcome to my blog where I post recent photos of my work and journal about my life as an artist. I live and work in Tulsa Oklahoma. It is from my early life in the mountains that I developed a love of the natural world which now includes vast prairies and endless skies. To contact me about a purchase all in lowercase letters you can write me at margee And then my last name @Gmail. Opening the web version of this blog gives the opportunity to purchase any of my how to books/videos, etc..

And now for something completely different…
For whatever reason I have decided to start making Pineneedles baskets. They keep my hands busy and my mind at rest and they’re just plain fun. I’m sure I’ll never get my time back out of these as they take about a day each to make.

Canning pears SOLD!
Canning pears
This is a painting that I did after my mom passed away. She wants describe to me one of her favorite scents and sights as a young girl was opening the cellar door to smell the bushel baskets of apples that were stored there, and to see the shelves lined with all different colors of preserves, and canned vegetables. We had just had a big harvest of pears ourselves and I was in the process of making pear wine and canning pears. I decided that I would run out and pick some flowers that were also blooming in the yard and create a still life in her honor. I just sold the painting a few days ago to a friend from church. I’m glad it went to a good home
Daffodils
Daffodils
This little painting was completed last year actually and then revisited this last week. I made a few changes so that the daffodils would be the main focal point. I had to areas that were fighting against each other, the daffodils and the flowering almond and so I knocked the almond down a bit.

Cathy’s painting
My friend from high school asked me to do a painting for her of her favorite place in the world. This is the walkway that leads to her paradise. I used the photograph that she sent to me and one that I took earlier this year at the beach and combined them both for the finish painting.

SOLD! A strange and stormy day a 20 x 24 oil painting
A strange and stormy day A 20 x 24” oil painting.
Coming out of the grocery store I noticed that a storm was brewing. I knew also that I only had moments to race to my car before I would be driving in the pouring rain. The clouds were too interesting though so I stayed and snapped several photographs before hitting the road. This painting was inspired by those photos. It is for sale for $700. My nickname is Margee and if you put that together with my last name in all lowercase letters you can send me a request through my Gee mail Address. I would say click the contact button but I keep getting a lot of spam through that button.
The little creek on our land
The little creek on our land is running now and is crystal clear as it usually is. This time of year phlox are growing at the edge of the stream and all along the railroad track… Or what was once a railroad track and is now just a pretty green path through the woods. I have been in the habit of doing little 6 x 8 plain air sketches of all of the seasons of the creeks and the land. This one is actually a little larger and is an 8 x 10 on board

A commission
Last month I was asked to create a painting from a photo of this sweet little boy. I combine several photographs to create this piece.
Our traffic circle with mosaics and metal sculpture
Years ago I was asked to create a traffic calming device. We had had a lot of trouble with speeders through our neighborhood and we got permission from the city to create an obelisk at the entrance to our neighborhood on the southside and a traffic circle, a roundabout on the north side. On the roundabout Caryn Brown, a mosaic artist in town, Lisa Regan, a metal worker, and I got together and created this piece. It is been here for around eight or 10 years now and I decided that it was time to paint the metal so that it could be more easily seen from the street. So this is the piece now.

Revisiting an older painting
Every now and then I pull out an old painting that needs some freshening up. I took out a couple of other elements of this painting that were some papers underneath the book and just reworked and left one of the papers I added another layer of paint to the painting with the billowing clouds. I thought the landscape beneath them was a little bit too dull. This painting is all about the clouds above, for sure but I needed a little bit of sprucing up below as well. Both of these paintings are on auction on my eBay gallery but I would welcome any offers through this site.
After Dan Gerhertz
This is a painting I did after looking for inspiration on the Internet. One of my favorite painters is the American artist, Dan Gearhart‘s. I first saw his work at the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa Oklahoma years ago and admired his use of color and his beautiful brushstrokes. Sometimes the best way to learned someone’s technique is to use a painting of theirs and closely observe their techniques. It may not be quite as easy for those who haven’t painted before but this keeps me from having to travel long distances and pay a lot of money for lessons with the masters. What I ended up with is my own version of this painting. Just a note of caution you should not sell these pieces if they are after a living artist andThey should always be marked with the words after, in this case, Dan Gerhertz, and then your own name, or copy of..,,..and then your name

Larry’sHouse SOLD!
This was a commissioned painting of my friend Larry's home. He asked me to include himself, his dog and if I could squeeze his cat into one of the flower pots he would be happy. This is what I ended up with... thanks to my husband who posed on the front steps for me.
