I had a few people that were going to be absent from my class the other day so I changed the assignment to " bring a troubled painting to class day."  I had this painting kicking around for a while and decided to play with it.  It was from a 3 hour sitting w a model and although I liked it, I couldn't sell it on ebay so I decided to play with hair and make up and costume and see what happens.

Another Pre Raphaelite Girl... She's back on the auction block

I started this last semester while my students were working independently.  I think I finished it the other day... one never knows for sure.  It is on auction this week through ebay.  A purchase will assure me that it is, in fact, finished :-)

Pre Raphaelite Girl with Cat by Margaret Aycock SOLD!

This was a really fun assignment that I gave to my students and of course, not wanting them to be the only ones having all the fun..... I painted one too.  We started with a random photo of a pretty woman and each person had to add a background and an animal.  I loved what everyone did with them... I had bear cubs, cougars and my kitty too.

This is what I have been playing with today.  I started this painting in my adult class as a demo and finished it over the holidays.  I have been painting Oklahoma landscapes and decided to put her at the edge of an Oklahoma forest.

Pre Raphaelite Girl with her Cat by Margaret Aycock

Somehow cats keep popping up magically in my paintings these days.  I lost my sweet little kitty cat a few month ago and I guess she is still in my mind.  Anyways this was a class assignment and of course I don't want to be left out so I always paint with the class... I demonstrated techniques along the way.  I am loving what the class is doing with this.  One did a draped nude with a panther laying next to her and one is holding a baby bear.  Fun.  ( notice how lazy I am.... hiding that hand under the cat :-).  My excuse is time is of the essence in class and I didn't have time to devote to it.  booohahaha....Anyways this one is on auction on ebay right now.  To bid and visit my ebay gallery click here

SOLD1 Red Haired Girl 20x24 oil

This began as a class demo.  I started with several photos.  a few of pretty girls and a few from our trip to the Wichita Mts.  Like Frankenstein, I took a hand from one photo, a face from another, a pretty outfit from another and borrowed the hair from another photo.  All combined into this painting of a lovely girl taking a walk through the woods.  I think all little girls imagine how wonderful it would be to have very long hair.  If we grow up to be artists, we realize our dreams through our painting.

I reworked her flesh a little and then took a photo in a darker room.  Man the color sure is different.  I need to go retake this in light!

I took a little bit of hair off the top and left side.  I took a tiny bit off the chin and added a little to the left side of the forehead and left cheek.  I also brought a hint of blue further out to the left to suggest a portion of her dress.  I feel better.

In my adult painting class we usually start with a master painting and use it as a jumping off point in which to do a work of our own.  Since I teach demonstration style I like to have the same source material available to all students which in an ideal world, would be a live model but in our case we are working with first time painters and there is a lot to teach about measuring, how to hold the brush, paint mixing, values, etc so it is easiest to work from photos.  I included 2 photos that we used to spark our imaginations.  It is remarkable to watch what everyone comes up with using the same photo.  We often find that there is a slight resemblance to the artist in the work.  Anyways, this one is on auction this week through ebay with a very low start price and no reserve.
